In my 20s I fell in love with the sound of music from eras gone by. My roommate in university first introduced me to Ella Fitzgerald. And then my father introduced me to Porgy and Bess. Before I knew it I had abandoned modern music and began to seek out music from a time before this life.

Ella, Louie, Bessie Smith, Alberta Hunter, John Lee Hooker, Nina Simone, Muddy Waters, Etta James....I could go on and on but I am sure you get the point. They have all kept me company through my life helping me celebrate the highlights and comforting me during the down times. To me they feel like family.

This morning I am playing a gift I just recieved from my husband. The Inkspots. I may have heard of one or two of theirs songs but I have not actively pursued their music. I am overwhelmed by a wave of nostalgia as I listen to the Ink Spots...feelings of intense happiness and the occasional pang of regret and sadness...almost like the music marked something for me in a by gone era.
